Day 25 - History and Humour

The day was grey, interspersed with wet and grey, but this did not dampen the enjoyment of events.

It was another remarkable breakfast prepared by our hosts, Aravinda and Jasmine, and we sampled Indian breakfast cuisine and downed the always delicious oatmeal. After, we walked around the nearby downtown area and discovered that we were not the only ones to recognize the significant stature of fellow venturer George (given the street named after him we now need to address him with considerably more respect).

One of the highlights of the day was a tour of Province House where PEI's Legislative Assembly of 27 elected members (with Canada's youngest Premier at 33, Robert Ghiz, son of a prior Premier)meet in session as they have for 160 years (the second oldest continuously used such assembly behind that of Halifax, Nova Scotia). It was here that the idea of the Confederation of Canada was born in meetings held in 1864 (although despite its host status PEI did not join the 1867 Confederation until 1873).

The second highlight of the day was dinner out at a nice Italian restaurant followed by seeing "Anne of Green Gables: the Musical" at the Arts Centre. It was fantastic; well-scripted, well-acted; well-sung and a totally enjoyable evening. All the more surprising was the folks who sat beside us...from Abbotsford, B.C.

Another great day despite the downpour from time to time.
